Top Tips on How to Clean Walls

One of the best ways to refresh your walls is by washing them. It makes the room look fresher and keeps the walls dust-free. Here are the top tips from three cleaning experts: Ryan Daniel Santos, Operations Manager at Speckless; Kadi Dulude, founder of Wizard of Homes; and Jessica Ek, Director of Digital Communications at the American Cleaning Institute.

Cleaning latex paint

If you have latex paint on your walls, you can use a non-abrasive cleaner to remove dirt. Apply the solution to a soft cloth and then rub the surface. You can also use white vinegar and water to clean the area. It would help if you always rubbed gently to prevent streaks.

To ensure that you do not cause damage to the wall, test the solution on a small area before applying it to the whole wall. Also, make sure to use a soft sponge for cleaning latex paint. You can use a dish detergent or vinegar, but you should not use abrasive soaps on these types of paints. You should also always make sure to wring the sponge before you touch the wall. This avoids leaving water on the surface, which may cause watermarks or bubbling.

Cleaning oil-based paint

You can remove stains from oil-based paint on walls by following simple steps. The first thing to do is test the solution on a small area. Next, make sure you use a non-abrasive sponge for the job. Make sure you wring out the sponge before touching the wall, and use only a tiny amount of water, as too much water may cause bubbling or watermarks.

The second step is to ensure that you’re not breathing the vapors produced by the oil-based paint. These paints produce high levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are hazardous to human health. For this reason, oil-based paint should be applied in a well-ventilated area. This paint is also more prone to discoloration, fading, mildew, and cracks. It’s also hazardous to the environment and must be disposed of as hazardous waste.

Cleaning flat paint

Following proper cleaning methods when it comes to flat painting walls is essential. These walls become discolored with time because of greasy smudges, dirt, or scuffs. These discolorations can impact the overall decor and ambiance of a room. However, if you do not clean your walls properly, you risk damaging them. Fortunately, several simple cleaning methods can keep flat paint walls looking great.

First, use a mild cleaner. A gentle solution such as vinegar or warm water can remove dirt and grime from walls. Avoid using strong cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the paint. To clean flat paint, use water diluted to half or one-third of its original concentration. Alternatively, you can use a cleaning pad for flat-paint walls, such as an Easy Eraser from Scotch-Brite.

Cleaning moldy walls

Fortunately, there are several methods for cleaning moldy walls. The first method involves using a hard bristled brush to scrub the affected area. If possible, use a ladder to reach the uppermost part of the wall. Then, spray the affected area with a fungicidal agent such as vinegar. This will penetrate the wall’s surface and remove the deeply embedded mold.

Another alternative is using washing powder. This can be purchased in Korean supermarkets or online. The powder contains more robust washing ingredients that can effectively kill mold spores. It is important to dilute the powder with water from one: to three. After using the solution, use a stiff brush to scrub the affected area. Once the moldy area has been cleaned, the wall should be thoroughly dried with an electric fan.

Cleaning scuff marks on painted walls

Cleaning scuff marks on painted walls can be a pain, but it can be done with a few tips and tricks. First, you need to use a damp sponge. Then, wring it out to remove excess water. Finally, scrub the smudges in several directions.

Another way to remove scuff marks on painted walls is to apply a paste made of baking soda to the area. This paste is easy to apply and will loosen the dirt. It will also remove any stains that are made from water.

Cleaning stains on painted walls

Cleaning stains on painted walls can be done by soaking a sponge or microfiber cloth in a warm water solution. Then, it would help if you allowed the solution to sit on the stain for 10 minutes before wiping it off. This prevents color transfer and will also save you time later on.

Before you begin cleaning, remove any dry debris from the area. If you cannot find the stain, use a feather duster or a dry towel to wipe the area lightly. Once the area is clean, use a soft sponge to clean the stain. You can use warm water and mild soap to remove stains without damaging the paint.

Cleaning wood walls

Cleaning wood walls is challenging, especially since wood does not like moisture. Therefore, following the proper cleaning essentials is important to prevent damage to your wood wall. One way to clean wood walls is with a dry dusting cloth. You can also use polishes and waxes. Whether you use a dry cleaning or a wet cleaning cloth, follow the grain of the wood and fold it over to pick up dust.

Lemon oil works well for cleaning wood walls. The oil helps remove surface dust without damaging the wood. Apply one to two drops on a dry cloth and wipe the walls.
