If you’re in the market for a car that offers a lot of room, you should take a look at the mini cooper countryman. It’s the largest and most roomy Mini, so you can easily fit four adults in it with a little bit of space left over for your luggage.
Powered by a 189-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine
The Mini Cooper Countryman is a subcompact SUV that offers spirited driving and a roomy interior. It also has a long list of customization options and trim levels to choose from.
The base model is powered by a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine that produces 134 horsepower and 162 pounds of torque. It’s paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
If you want more power, opt for the Cooper S with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 189 horsepower and 206 pounds of torque. It’s mated to an eight-speed automatic in all-wheel drive models and has a zero-to-60 time of 4.9 seconds.
For the more adventurous, there’s a John Cooper Works model with a turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 301 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with an 8-speed automatic in all-wheel drive and has a zero-to-60 time that’s quicker than the S.
It has a spirited drive
Minis are renowned for their quick steering and agility, which is what you’ll find in the Countryman. Our test car had a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 121 horsepower and is also available as a 184-hp S model.
The Countryman can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 7.1 seconds and cover the quarter-mile in 15.4 seconds at 89.3 mph. Its EPA fuel-economy figures of 23/31/26 mpg city/highway/combined are competitive with some similarly sized SUVs.
Our test car also had a six-speed manual gearbox, and the Countryman’s steering and throttle response were precise and well controlled. However, the brake pedal is mushy and the ride quality can be harsh on bumpy or broken pavement.
The mini cooper countryman offers plenty of seating for up to five passengers. The rear seats slide and recline, offering ample headroom for two adults. The front seats are comfortable, with solid bolstering for spirited driving. The Countryman has good cargo space, with 17.6 cubic feet behind the second row and 47.6 cubic feet with the back seat folded down.
It has a roomy interior
The MINI Countryman is a crossover SUV that offers more room than you might expect. In addition to plenty of headroom and legroom, the front seats feature at least 40.5 inches of space for you and your passengers to stretch out.
This makes it ideal for longer commutes and family road trips, where you’ll be able to fit everyone in comfortably. The cargo area has 17.6 cubic feet of space behind the rear row, which can be expanded by folding down the 40/20/40 split-folding seats.
The MINI Countryman also comes with a variety of technologies that keep you connected and entertained. You can easily listen to your favorite music or make phone calls using Apple CarPlay technology, which is standard on all models. You can even use the 8.8-inch touchscreen to access a range of different apps and information.
It has a sporty look
Mini has a reputation for being one of the most unique-looking crossovers on the market, and the Countryman is no exception. With plastic wheel-arch extensions, eyebrow creases and roof bars, the exterior has a sporty feel that makes it easy to spot on the road.
The mini cooper countryman offers a variety of different trim levels. These include the base Classic, mid-range Signature and luxurious Iconic.
While there are some differences in the features and technology offered by each trim, they all come with standard safety features and modern driver assistance tech. Each trim has a rating of “Good” from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
The countryman also offers a variety of engine choices, including a base 134-hp 1.5-liter three-cylinder and a turbocharged 189-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder. There’s also a plug-in hybrid model with up to 301 horsepower.
