Almost everyone has jumped on the Pinterest bandwagon. Still, if you’re one of the many business owners who are intimidated by Pinterest or have no idea what to do with it, this article is for you. There’s a lot of great advice out there about using Pinterest for your new business, so I’ve done some digging around and found five tips that stood out to me. Enjoy!
“Many people don’t understand how relevant their content should be,” says Ron Sela, SEO specialist at Creative Live. “You want to make sure your content is relevant to your brand and industry. If you start seeing no engagement, it’s time to update the content.”
Pin something that your ideal customer would be interested in based on what they’re already pinning. Don’t post pictures of puppies if your audience is pet-lovers – save those pins for Pinterest! Also, think about who is trying to attract your business. The more specific you can get with who you want to follow your boards, the better.
“The use of Pin descriptions is important because people love using search terms to find new things on Pinterest,” says Brandon Andrews, Founder at I Can Socialize. “The Pin description is also a place to provide context and more information on the Pin image.”
Don’t forget about keywords! Your pin descriptions are an opportunity to include long-tail keyword phrases, which will help your pins rank better in search engine results. If you want to get extra savvy with your keyword strategy, try including hashtags as well as keywords, or even use relevant quotes from customers – those kinds of things can work wonders! Also, it keeps keyword stuffing out of your pin descriptions – it’s not helpful, and Pinterest doesn’t like it. They’ll penalize you if you overuse keywords, which could hurt your rankings.
“Get sensational or get ignored,” says Priti Bhatt, CMO at TINT. “The content you share on Pinterest is likely to get pinned and repinned, but it needs to be something that your target audience will find useful and interesting.”
If you want your business’s Pinterest boards to go viral, give people a reason to pin and share them! If it’s not that interesting or relevant to the user in the first place, then no one will bother sharing it. Make sure your pins are fantastic enough to motivate people into action! These days we’re all pretty savvy when it comes to social media marketing, so if you can’t hook us with excellent content, we’ll keep on scrolling.
“People love a good story,” says Desiree Worthington, Digital Marketing Strategist at Captivate. “Brands need to use Pinterest as an opportunity to establish themselves as experts and thought leaders in their industry.”
It’s all about storytelling. Think of your pins like little blog posts and include words and images that tell people what your business is all about and why they should buy from you. If you’re feeling extra savvy, try creating infographics or visual content. It’s fun. It’s engaging – basically, it’s the perfect recipe for Pinteresting!
“Make your Pinterest Boards special by offering exclusive deals only available to Pinners,” says Daniel Ziskin, Founder of Social Surveys. “Your followers will appreciate the ‘inside scoop’ on new inventory or sales before they are made public.”
Build up some excitement about your business’s Facebook page with a bit of teaser – leading fans over there can pay off! Your Facebook friends are already familiar with who you are and what you’re all about, so it makes sense that they’ll be more likely to keep up with you on other platforms too. By creating boards on Pinterest that include exclusive offers, people can get excited about checking out your boards AND maybe checking out your website simultaneously!
